Our Verdict

Montane have taken the humble fleece balaclava and thrown in some useful features to become a really well thought out and functional piece of winter headgear.

It features has a mesh panel around the mouth area allowing unrestricted breathing and has a reinforced peak that helps with the fit under a hood or helmet. Personally I’m not sure about the peak but it doesn’t affect the squashability of the balaclava.

The balaclava is constructed from Dryactiv Stretch fleece which has a superb warmth to weight ratio and is highly breathable. The Pertex Quantum mini rip stop fabric overlay is positioned in critical areas and has very high levels of wind resistance, providing excellent protection.
