A super light, super packable wind shell, that’s also environmentally friendly.

Our Verdict

Montane went back to the drawing board with this one, with the intent of creating a new super light, super packable wind shield, that’s also 100% recycled.

The jacket is made from a lightweight Pertex quantum eco, which as stated above, is 100% recycled and the DWR (durable water repellent) coating is environmentally friendly and PFC free, all things we like to see here, the more sustainable options on the market the better.  

Because of its DWR, this wind shell will also stand up to moderate rain, which for a jacket that only weighs 59g, is extremely impressive. The jacket packs down into its own pocket, to something smaller than a tennis ball, but can also easily be stashed in a hip belt pocket.

As you can imagine the jacket has done away with all the bells and whistles, including pockets and a hood, its simple, sleek, minimalistic design is all about saving weight. The deep YKK zip is perfect at shielding you from wind and rain when done up, and brilliant at ventilating heat when zipped down. The partially elasticated hem and cuffs, help to keep the wind out and the weight down, by doing away with draw string and Velcro.

Its an “active fit”, for context I’m 6 foot and about 90 kilos, and the medium fitted me fine with a thin base layer underneath, but I would have room for a thin fleece if required. As it’s an active fit, the jacket doesn’t blow or flap around in the wind, it fits nice and close without being constrictive.
