Our Verdict

Montane’s Icarus Micro Insulated Jacket is a versatile synthetic jacket that works well as a layer or outer in a wide range of conditions. The use of PrimaLoft ThermoPlume insulation means that you get the benefits of down but a jacket that stays warm when wet. Micro baffles up the sides and down the arms helps regulate temperature without sacrificing heat. A great looking jacket that works as well around town as it does in the mountains.

With no hood, a slightly lower collar, elasticated cuffs and hem Montane have reduced the bulk and excess weight creating a jacket that works as well as a mid layer as it does an outer. There is some reduced movement simply due to the amount of insulation you get but these features along with the use of micro baffles really help make this jacket more practical in more situations.
