The Icarus Micro Jacket is a classic mid-weight insulated micro baffle jacket filled with PrimaLoft® Thermoplume®; a 100% recycled Insulation Type which mimics the heat-trapping properties of natural down whilst being extremely fast drying. Combined with the Quantum Eco outer fabric which has a DWR for shedding light rain, this is the ideal insulation choice for mountain walking in mixed conditions.

Our Verdict

Montane’s Icarus Micro Insulated Jacket, has been blessed with an extra 20g of Primaloft Thermoplume insulation taking it to 170grams. Thermoplume is a loose fill Insulation Type which means its ‘blown’ into chambers in the jacket in the same way as down is used, this gives the jacket a better drape and ‘feel’. Its claimed that Thermopume has the equivalent insulation as 550 Fill Power down, therefore this jacket will be comparable in warmth to the Featherlite Micro down jacket, but its a lot heavier, so the Icarus Micro jacket comes into its own in wet and damp environments.

In fact Montane have used an outer fabric with a high weather resistance just because this is likely to be where the jacket will be used, it also has a flap backing to the zipper for the same reason. Its got a reduced height collar which also makes it better as a mid-layer, when you’re layering up too many collars and hoods can become a problem.

The cuffas are simply finished with an elasticated band and the hem has an elasticated drawcord.
