Montane says
Extremely versatile and tough GORE-TEX mountain shell combining lightweight 40 Denier fabric with 70 Denier reinforcements in high abrasion areas and a helmet compatible hood and articulated arms. The Ajax Jacket is ideal for climbers, mountaineers and mountain walkers looking for a no-nonsense, uncompromising waterproof shell jacket.
Our Verdict
Montane’s Ajax Gore-Tex Waterproof Jacket feels tough and durable. The high denier Gore-Tex mean that the Ajax is perfect for those tough conditions and full on activities. It’s a great choice for winter mountain activities and can cope with fully loaded backpacks, harnesses and anything else you want to wear it with unlike a lot of other lighter jackets on the market.
Three decent sized pockets, a fully adjustable hood and hem are great additions to this jacket and the tailored design with shaped cuffs and tall collar make this perfect for those days where the weather is against you. The protection from the tall collar is perfect for keeping out the wind and rain which can be lacking in other jackets.
We love the simple, hard wearing nature of this jacket. It’s not aimed at being ultralight, but performing well in the worst conditions and it does exactly that.
